Coronavirus Update for UUSD Schools & Families 3.10.2020

Parents and Guardians:

California Department of Public Health (CDPH) released updated guidance for schools over the weekend. We work closely with and receive guidance from CDPH and the California Department of Education (CDE), and we are currently in line with their recommendations. As always, our top priority is the health and safety of our students and staff.

At this time, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mendocino County. Mendocino County Health & Human Services is not recommending school closures at this time or canceling large group activities. We will be evaluating each large group school event or out of town field trip to ensure Ukiah Unified implements guidance from CDPH and CDE.

Although there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mendocino County at this time, we continue to make contingency plans in case it is necessary to close schools in the future due to COVID-19. If it is necessary to close school for five days or more, we are discussing the possibility of providing independent study for our students. We will update you regarding this issue later this week.

We encourage all students, families, and staff to take these everyday preventive actions:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer and encourage handwashing by students and fellow staff.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash; or cough or sneeze into your elbow.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick. Do not return until 24 hours after a fever ends without fever-reducing medication.
  • Seek immediate medical care if you are sick, and symptoms become more severe, e.g., high fever or difficulty breathing.
  • Get a flu vaccine (there is currently no vaccine for COVID-19).
  • Make plans now to have the support needed at home if you need to stay home due to illness.

UUSD will continue to work with our education and health partners and will provide updates as necessary by direct communication with families and staff and on our website at www.uusd.net
