Superintendent Kubin’s Update October 8, 2021

Thank you to everyone in our wonderful community who made Ukiah High School’s 2021 Homecoming such a success! Next week is Week of the School Administrator, and I want to take a moment to thank our administrators and all Ukiah Unified employees for everything they do to make the lives of our children better and improve our community. I challenge everyone to send a positive email to at least one of our staff members next week! Let’s fill up their email inboxes with love and kindness! Please help me express gratitude to our extraordinary employees.

Progress Reports/Grades Schools are actively sending out progress reports and updating grades. If your child needs help, I urge you to reach out to their teacher and school for support. After-school tutoring and enrichment are available at every school site. Please take advantage of these opportunities to help our children accelerate their learning. Contact your child’s school for more information.

We Want You! Like most organizations around the country, Ukiah Unified is going through a shortage of candidates for our many open positions. We are desperately seeking applicants for substitute teachers, bus drivers, custodians, teaching assistants, food service assistants, and clerical staff. If you or anyone you know wants to start a rewarding career helping our community, please visit EdJoin or Indeed to apply. Help us recruit great people for our students.

Weekend COVID-19 Testing  In addition to our current COVID-19 testing at school sites and the District Service Center, we now provide COVID-19 testing on Sundays from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Eagle Peak Middle School, 8601 West Road in Redwood Valley, CA. Any Ukiah Unified student or staff member can get tested. Regular COVID-19 testing is recommended for all Ukiah Unified students and staff, regardless of vaccination status. Contact your child’s school for COVID-19 testing information.

Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) It may again be necessary for PG&E to turn off electricity in the interest of public safety. I hope it won’t be necessary, but if we need to cancel school due to a PSPS, we will communicate through emails, phone calls, texts, radio announcements, www.uusd.net, and our Facebook page. We have additional days built into our calendar to make up for any lost days.

I hope you have a great weekend, and thank you for all you do to support your child’s education.
