Facilities Master Plan
Ukiah Unified School District’s Board of Trustees adopted a new Facilities Master Plan in March 2026, establishing a long-term framework for improving, modernizing and investing in District schools.
The plan identifies facility needs across Ukiah Unified and prioritizes improvements that can create safer, more accessible and future-ready learning environments. It also positions the District to pursue state school-facility funding, including grants made available through California Proposition 2.
About the Plan
A Facilities Master Plan provides a districtwide assessment of school facilities and a roadmap for future improvements. It considers the condition, capacity and use of existing buildings and grounds while identifying projects that could best support students, employees and the community in the years ahead. The plan supports Ukiah Unified’s Strategic Plan – An EPIC Journey – and its commitment to safe, welcoming and effective learning environments.
The Facilities Master Plan helps the District:
- Identify and prioritize long-term facility needs
- Reduce reliance on aging portable classrooms
- Modernize classrooms and learning spaces
- Improve health, safety and accessibility
- Maintain and improve essential building systems and infrastructure
- Plan facilities that support current and future educational programs
- Pursue available state school-facility funding
How the Plan Was Developed
Ukiah Unified developed the plan through a districtwide review of its facilities and consultation with the people who use and support our schools.
The planning process included:
- Site visits and assessments of building conditions
- Review of school capacity, enrollment and facility use
- Input from District employees
- Community meetings conducted in English and Spanish
- Feedback from parents, families and community members
- Development and review of proposed priorities
- Public review and adoption by the Board of Trustees
Community feedback helped the District understand which facility needs and learning environments mattered most to students, families, employees and the broader Ukiah community. We thank everyone who participated in the process.
From Planning to Implementation
Adoption of the Facilities Master Plan establishes the District’s priorities, but it does not mean that every project is immediately funded or scheduled for construction.
The District uses the plan to guide future decisions as it:
- Evaluates project readiness, cost and urgency
- Completes required planning and design work
- Pursues Proposition 2 and other available state grants
- Identifies required matching funds and other potential funding sources
- Presents individual projects and funding decisions to the Board of Trustees
- Implements approved projects as funding becomes available
Project timing may change based on state funding, construction costs, regulatory approvals and emerging facility needs.
