Special Education Department
The Special Education Department provides specially designed instruction and related services to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities, as defined by state and federal law. Our goal is to ensure that every student has access to a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment.
How We Support the District:

Individualized instruction and services for eligible students from birth through age 22

Evaluation and identification of students with disabilities as outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

Development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

Related services such as speech, occupational therapy, counseling, and other supports

Collaboration with general education teachers to ensure inclusion and access to curriculum

Support for parents and guardians through meetings, resources, and guidance

Compliance with state and federal regulations, including partnership with the Mendocino County SELPA
Eligibility for Special Education Services:
Students may qualify for special education services in one of the following categories:
Autism • Deaf-blindness • Deafness • Hearing impairment • Intellectual disability • Multiple disabilities • Orthopedic impairment • Other health impairment • Severe emotional disturbance • Specific learning disability • Speech or language impairment • Traumatic brain injury • Visual impairment
