Last Wednesday evening (8/26/26), Dr. Douglas Fisher, professor and chair of San Diego State University’s Department of Educational Leadership, led an in-person class for the UUSD Leadership Cohort in the Ukiah Unified Board Room.
The participating employees complete an 18-month program (in partnership with San Diego State University) that leads to a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential. The credential qualifies educators to pursue administrative positions such as assistant principal, principal and district-level leadership roles.
Fisher is a credentialed California teacher and administrator who has published more than 250 books, chapters and articles focused on school improvement. He was inducted into the Reading Hall of Fame in 2022 and is widely recognized for his work in instructional leadership, literacy and improving outcomes for students.
“Developing strong leaders is one of the most important investments we can make in the future of our schools,” said Superintendent Debra Kubin. “The employees in this cohort already know our students, families, schools and community. They have demonstrated their commitment to Ukiah Unified, and now they are taking on the additional work required to prepare themselves to lead. We are proud to support them.”
