Around 1,400 Ukiah Unified students ride the bus to and from school every day – safely, thanks to the dedicated work of our Transportation Team.
Our professional drivers, mechanics, and support staff keep buses inspected, routes safe, and students cared for, no matter the weather or distance. The familiar yellow bus remains one of the safest vehicles on the road, thanks to careful route planning, regular maintenance, and the cooperation of drivers who stop when red lights are flashing and the stop sign is extended.
On two-lane roads, students may need to cross the street to reach their stop or their home, which is why all drivers – in both directions – must stop when a bus’s red lights are flashing.
On larger (two or more lanes in each direction) or divided roads, bus routes are planned so students don’t need to cross traffic; buses make stops on the right side in each direction. Drivers going in the same direction as buses must stop. Drivers going in the opposite direction are not required to stop, but should proceed with caution as children are unpredictable.
Transportation is a key part of our caring culture and supports consistent attendance – helping students arrive ready to learn, on time, every day.
Please join us in thanking our Transportation Team for keeping our students safe on their EPIC journey each and every day.
