Senator Mike McGuire visits Grace Hudson

Senator Mike McGuire visited Grace Hudson Language Academy on Friday, September 26, to announce a $250,000 grant that will help Ukiah Unified School District refresh the school’s playgrounds.

He was welcomed by Superintendent Deb Kubin, Board of Trustees Bea Arkin and Carolyn Johnson, and Principal Jim Evans. The Senator stopped in a Kindergarten classroom, where students greeted him with curious questions and two songs in Spanish. Fifth-grade student ambassadors then led him on a tour of the playgrounds slated for renovation, including the TK/Kindergarten playground and the larger playground used by all other students. The fifth graders shared thoughtful questions and ideas about school life and ways to improve their play spaces.

In conversation with district leaders, Senator McGuire also received an update on the school year and expressed his ongoing appreciation for the teachers and support staff who serve the community’s children.

Ukiah Unified thanks Senator McGuire for his visit and for the grant that will enhance the learning and play environment for students at Grace Hudson.
