Ukiah Unified School District significantly expanded its arts education offerings through Prop 28 funding in the 2024-25 school year, building upon existing programs and introducing new opportunities across multiple campuses.
At Ukiah High School, arts pathways continued, including three sections of Dance, a Stagecraft class to enhance the drama program, two sections of Drama, two sections of Character Design, an expanded Yearbook section, two sections of Video Game Design, and a Woodworking Arts class. These sustained courses ensure broad access to arts education for high school students.
The 2024-25 year also saw the launch of several new Prop 28-funded arts initiatives at the elementary level. Nokomis Elementary established a music program during the school day with a credentialed teacher. Yokayo Elementary introduced an afterschool pottery program. Grace Hudson Elementary added visual arts instruction both during and after school.
Furthermore, arts exposure was broadened through guest artists. South Valley High School and Oak Manor Elementary hosted visual artists, Frank Zeek Elementary welcomed cinematic artists, and Calpella Elementary featured dancing instruction. Ukiah Independent Study Academy also initiated an afterschool arts club.
Looking ahead, Ukiah Unified is actively developing additional arts programs for elementary, middle, and high schools in the 2025-26 school year, further deepening our commitment to comprehensive arts education.
Arts and Music in Schools (AMS) funded 2.953 full-time equivalent teachers providing arts education programs.
