Simulated Training Event at Ukiah High School on April 23, 2024

On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, students of Ukiah High School will participate in a simulated mass casualty event at the lower baseball field. In preparation for this project, students have been working with community EMTs, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and more. This learning opportunity allows students in our Scrubs classes and club to apply their skills in a simulated scenario. Students enrolled in these classes are in the Emergency Response and Patient Care Career and Technical Education pathways, preparing for a career in emergency response and/or healthcare. Several academic departments are also participating in the simulation.

You may see multiple first responder vehicles on site, including police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances. Don’t be alarmed — this is just a simulation, not an actual emergency.

The simulated scenario is a gas leak that leads to an explosion at a residential duplex when a family gathering is happening. Simulated injuries occur, including burns, musculoskeletal injuries, and uncontrolled bleeding. Students are working with industry advisors and will fill the roles of fire, EMS, law enforcement, media, and hospital personnel.

We are very grateful for Mr. Turner and our community partners in law enforcement and fire/rescue who are volunteering their time and expertise to deliver this impactful learning opportunity. If you notice the presence of first responder vehicles at the high school on Tuesday during the drill, remember that this is just an exercise.

Join us in wishing the students good luck during this amazing experience.
