Superintendent Kubin’s Update March 4, 2022

Happy Friday, Ukiah Unified! On Monday, March 7, there will be no classes for a Teacher Work Day, and classes will resume on Tuesday, March 8. This week, the governor announced the timeline and details for ending the indoor mask requirement in school settings. After 11:59 p.m. on March 11, California will move from mask requirements to mask recommendations in schools. Per the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), this decision is based on the sharp and continued decrease in the number of active COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and vaccination rates in California.

Based on the announcement, here are the new guidelines:

  • Masking in school settings is strongly recommended, not required, effective Monday, March 14.
  • Masking is still mandated until the end of the day Friday, March 11.
  • Continued respect and support for students and staff who wish to continue wearing masks.

We have a diverse population with diverse viewpoints and different health conditions, so we ask our parents, students, and staff to please be respectful of each other’s views. Ukiah Unified follows California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidance and mandates.
