Superintendent’s Update to Ukiah Unified Families May 19, 2021

I usually communicate with families on Friday, but this week I am reaching out on Wednesday to remind everyone about Mendocino County Public Health’s vaccination clinics on our school campuses for 12 - 18-year-olds on Friday and Saturday. You can see a list of vaccination opportunities below. Additionally, I want to urge everyone to do everything possible to keep our schools safe and open for the rest of the school year. Please follow the guidelines: wear a mask, social distance, and wash your hands!

If anyone in your household is sick or exposed to someone who is sick, it is extremely important to keep your children home. We’ve had several students exposed to COVID-19 positive individuals outside of school. These exposures have required many other students and staff to be quarantined unless they are vaccinated. Our goal is to keep schools open in person for the rest of the year and provide in-person graduation and promotion ceremonies.  It’s up to all of us to do the right things to make sure our seniors and middle school graduates and their families can experience the joy of in-person graduation ceremonies.  These events are only two weeks away! Please help us maintain a safe school environment for everyone by following COVID-19 safety guidelines. View the UUSD COVID-19 Dashboard here. We will post all positive COVID-19 incidents related to Ukiah Unified school sites and offices to this page.

COVID Vaccinations for Students 12–18  Mendocino County Public Health will be offering various opportunities for students ages 12 - 18 to get vaccinated for COVID-19. At this time, COVID-19 vaccinations are not required for school attendance, but we wanted to make sure you are aware of the opportunities in our community to have your child receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Don’t forget to fill out and return the consent form attached to this communication or follow the links.

Face Coverings As you are likely aware, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently updated its guidelines regarding the use of face coverings for individuals fully vaccinated for COVID-19. California schools follow the California Department of Public Health and CalOSHA workplace guidelines, which have not changed. Masks will continue to be required in all UUSD settings for all employees, students, and visitors. If and when this changes, we will be sure to communicate with you to ensure that there is no confusion.

If you need assistance, please first reach out to your child’s school and then call our District Hotline at 707-472-5003. Thank you very much for everything you do to support our students!
