Susan Asbury Sworn In As New Ukiah Unified Trustee; Fernandez, Molgaard, and Van Sant Start New Terms

Asbury was elected on November 4, 2020, and she serves in this role for two years. Current Trustees Zoey Fernandez, Anne Molgaard, and Megan Van Sant were re-elected and began their new four-year terms as well.

“I am very excited to roll up my sleeves and get to work on the challenges our District is experiencing because of the pandemic. I hope to be an asset to our children, an advocate for UUSD staff, and a champion for our community. My experience with kids will be the guiding force behind what I want to accomplish. It’s all about the kids,” said Trustee Asbury.

Susan Asbury was born in San Jose, CA, and moved to Mendocino County in 1972 at the age of seven. She attended Ukiah Unified schools as a child and is a 1983 Ukiah High School graduate. Asbury served in the U.S. Army and spent close to 20 years working at Friedman’s Home Improvement. Susan drove a Ukiah Unified bus for four years, and she is currently the Customer Service Concierge at Ken Fowler Auto Center in Ukiah, CA.

Susan and her wife Nina were married in 2008 and have adopted seven children, all of who attend or have attended Ukiah Unified schools. She has children in Calpella Elementary, Eagle Peak Middle School, and Ukiah High School. Susan is a long-time volunteer at Calpella Elementary, where all of the Asbury children started their education. She may be reached at [email protected].

Ukiah Unified Trustee President Megan Van Sant added, “We look forward to working with Trustee Asbury and welcome her to this vital post. The decisions we make together over the next few years are going to be extremely important to the future of our families and this community.”
