Superintendent’s Update to Ukiah Unified Families: November 20, 2020

Happy Friday, Ukiah Unified Families! No Distance Learning next week from November 23rd thru November 27th, 2020.  We will resume Distance Learning on Monday, November 30th after the holiday break. Please take this time to rest, relax, and connect with each other. Give thanks for our many blessings during this tough time!

There are so many things that we all have to be thankful for, and the pandemic has made these things even more apparent. I have visited distance learning classrooms with Ukiah Unified Trustees each week since this craziness began, and when I see all of the happy smiling faces, I realize how thankful I am for the spectacular students and families we have at Ukiah Unified. I am thankful for our teachers, staff, and leaders for all of their hard work, sacrifice, and dedication to our children’s success.

Increased COVID numbers in our county have moved us into the purple tier and postponed our reopening process. We received confirmation today from Dr. Coren, Mendocino County Public Health Officer, that we will be eligible to reopen when Mendocino County moves to the red tier and stays in the red tier for two additional weeks.  With the surge in Mendocino County cases, we are not sure when this will occur, so it is difficult for me to project when we might be able to transition to an in-person model of instruction, but we will keep you updated with information as we receive it.

Please take time over this holiday break to spend time with your family, and thank you so much for all you are doing to support your students!

Please continue to get information from official UUSD channels like my weekly communications, at www.uusd.net, and on the Ukiah Unified Facebook page.  Reference The California Blueprint Data Chart for COVID-19 numbers; this is the information used by the state to calculate our average new daily cases and positivity rate. Thank you very much for your support, and I want to wish you all a happy, healthy, and relaxing holiday break!
