Summer is here and we're encouraging all Ukiah Unified School District students to read, read, read.
We've teamed up with the Ukiah Police Department (UPD) to sponsor a program called Ukiah Reads. Now in its fourth year, this program celebrates great books, and our goal is to foster a love of reading in all our students, so we invite you to join us and do all you can to help your child read throughout the summer.
The Ukiah Reads book list is available by clicking on the link below and locally you can find books from the list at the Mendocino County Library in Ukiah, the Mendocino Book Company at 102 S. School Street, or the Village Bookstore at 344 N. State Street.
We are offering prizes to the most prolific readers. The reading log below can be used to track your child's reading progress, and then turned in to classroom teachers when they return to school in the fall. Each book read off the list earns a ticket into a drawing for age-appropriate prizes.
Reading has so many benefits, and we hope by encouraging children to read for entertainment rather than school, they will discover the pure joy of it. Mark Twain said, "The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read." Let's give our children every advantage. Let's fill them with a passion for reading.
